If you bring nothing else to visit the tropics, just make sure a Salty & Pine kaftan makes it into your pack. Ideal to wear on adventures, at home, even out to dinner, their versatile V-Neck kaftan works great over a bikini, tank, or on its own. This is the female-owned and operated product of a collaboration between photographer Heidi Zumbrun and accomplished designer Anne Nichols, based in Los Angeles, CA and Portland, OR respectively.

Meeting over dinner one night, Heidi explained the idea she’d been brewing up on her last few surf trips to Costa Rica. Shooting and styling various brands, exploring and causing trouble in different tropical locations gave her the idea to create the look and the item for the lifestyle she likes to live. Together Heidi and Anne translated the essence and feeling of effortless style into timeless designs.

Currently, Salty & Pine is produced in small batches in a Portland studio. Adding vintage trims, pom-pom, and using accents collected from travels worldwide, the pieces are made of absorbent, breathable cotton or bamboo blends. With variations only on length, the cut is more tunic, and less poncho with nice lines down both sides that show the figure. One you wear one, you’ll be hooked.
